Drunk Elephant’s Newest Serum Redefines #SkinGoals
It’s time to amp up your skincare game!
Drunk Elephant is a skincare brand that needs no introduction. Stocked on the gleaming racks and shelves of Sephora all over the world, its formulas are carefully crafted to help the skin return to its healthiest, most balanced state. Knowing that a product is only as good as its worst ingredient, the biocompatible brand adopts an ingredient-elimination philosophy for a total skin reset, leaving it appearing more even and smoother while blessing it with a healthy glow.
Drunk Elephant recently launched another promising product to its collection—Protini™ Powerpeptide Resurf Serum—that works to dramatically improve the appearance of skin’s texture, tone, radiance, and bounce. Founder Tiffany Masterson dishes everything there is to know about the brand’s newest serum that will amp up your skincare game.
Is the Protini™ Powerpeptide Resurf Serum designed to be used in conjunction with the Protini™ Polypeptide Cream? What other products in the Drunk Elephant line can we use this new serum with?
Protini Serum can be used with or mixed with any Drunk Elephant Moisturizer. I love to mix Protini Serum and Protini Cream together to get maximum skin strengthening results. Think of Protini Cream as your breakthrough moisturizer—packed with 9 signal peptides and growth factors for an extra shot of protein—and Protini Serum as its powerful sidekick with 11 signal peptides and growth factors (even more protein!) plus 10% lactic acid, an effective, gentle AHA that makes both Protinis even more absorbable. Together they support, strengthen, and protect—a three-pronged approach to smoother, bouncier, more radiant skin.
You can also mix Protini Serum with C-Firma Day Serum for added brightening and firming benefits. Since Protini Serum provides a gentle chemical exfoliation on its own, it’s not necessary to use TLC Framboos or Babyfacial on the same day.
What made you choose Protini™ as the main ingredient in the new serum?
Protini is the name that we gave Protini Serum and Protini Cream to indicate the presence of skin fortifying peptides in each. The 11 signal peptides in Protini Serum are safe, plant-derived growth factors that help to boost skin’s self-renewal, binding moisture to skin and plumping, firming, and restoring
bounce. The 10% lactic acid in Protini Serum provides a gentle exfoliation. Derived from the fermentation of sugar, lactic acid is an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) that exfoliates the skin by dissolving the bonds that hold dead cells together. Lactic acid is considered to be a milder, more hydrating AHA.
Is Protini™ Powerpeptide Resurf Serum suitable for women in Asia where humidity and pollution levels are relatively high?
Yes absolutely – Protini Serum will help restore moisture levels in the skin that can be depleted by hot sun and humidity – followed of course by Umbra Sheer or Umbra Tinte for your daily SPF. The number one most important defender of our skin is its acid mantle…it locks in hydration and protects against pollution. Our products all work in support of the acid mantle.
How is Protini™ Powerpeptide Resurf Serum different from other Drunk Elephant serums?
Each of our serums offer different benefits based on their key ingredients. Because they all Drunk Elephant formulas are biocompatible, they can be combined to create customized skincare smoothies to give your skin what it needs on any given day. B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum, with its Sodium Hyaluronate, delivers steady hydration throughout the day to quench and illuminate the skin. C-Firma Day Serum has 15% L-Absorbic acid to visibly reduce the appearance of dark spots and wrinkles while it firms and brightens. Protini Serum, with 10% Lactic Acid, gently exfoliates skin to reveal a radiant, more even-toned complexion, with signal peptides deliver plump, bouncy skin. TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Serum contains a blend of glycolic, tartaric, lactic and citric acids to refine and resurface, revealing a smoother and more radiant complexion. Of course the actives in all of these serums are supported by an array of biocompatible, barrier supportive ingredients with their own additional benefits to the skin.
Can you give us some tips on combating skin aging?
First and foremost, avoid the Suspicious Six Suspicious 6™ (essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical sunscreens, fragrances/dyes, SLS). We believe that these six ubiquitous ingredients are at the root of almost every skin issue, and when they’re removed entirely from your routine skin can reset and return to its healthiest, most balanced state. Avoiding the Suspicious Six keeps your acid mantle and skin microbiome healthy and thriving, which is key in preventing signs of premature aging.
In addition, be cautious about over cleansing your skin. That is a big issue for many of us—using a cleanser (even a mild one) two or three (or more) times a day may end up taking a little too much away from the protective lipids and other substances in skin. That’s why we are major advocates of cleansing only once daily, in the evening. That means in the morning, you just splash your face with a little warm water and move right into your daytime skincare routine.
What are your greatest skincare secrets?
Wear your sunscreen every day and avoid the Suspicious Six in your skincare routine. Oh, and exercise as much as possible. It’s my answer for everything.
