How Natasha Moor Empowers Women Through Makeup

The answer: one lipstick at a time.

It’s not every day that we see a local brand achieving international success and recognition, but Natasha Moor’s story is proof that if you dare to dream big, nothing is impossible.

Natasha Moor began her journey in beauty as the go-to makeup artist for brides all over the world. Through her clients, she witnessed firsthand the power of makeup and its ability to transform a woman’s confidence. The smile on her clients’ face inspired her to launch her eponymous cosmetic line, empowering women globally through the universal language of makeup.

And it’s not just about the looks—if you pay attention to the name of each lipstick shade, there’s a powerful message behind wearing something like Conquer, Fearless, Game changer, Queen, Drive (my favourite), or Self-Made.

Ahead, the influential beauty mogul shares inspiration behind her best-selling lipsticks, her skincare secrets, and her favourite female-owned brand.

It’s not every day that we see a local brand achieving international success and recognition, but Natasha Moor’s story is proof that if you dare to dream big, nothing is impossible.

Have you always wanted to have your own business?

I have always wanted to be a part of something bigger in my role first as a makeup artist and as the Founder and CEO of Natasha Moor Cosmetics. I wanted to imbue the sentiment “no one is you and that is your power” to individuals near and far through my platform and my products.

I was inspired to create my own brand from my experiences as a makeup artist for my brides and direct clientele, but most importantly from my philanthropy.

I had the unique opportunity to visit women’s shelters and rehabilitation centres and use makeup as a tool to transform the way they felt. One may have thought that applying makeup on seems superficial and may send the wrong message, however, I saw in an instant the surge of excitement and sense of self-confidence that exuded when they looked at themselves. In that moment, I realised this is why I do what I do, and it serves as the basis for our collection, every product we create at Natasha Moor Cosmetics and our #DoMoor charitable initiatives.

What makes Natasha Moor’s lipsticks different?

The Natasha Moor Cosmetics range encourages self-love, inner power and realises the different definitions and expressions of beauty: each product is designed with unique aspirational affirmations, so that the individual feels uplifted when wearing our products.

Each of the products in the collection fill a gap in the market. I noticed a niche, specifically with our first line of cosmetics: lipstick. As a makeup artist for brides, I couldn’t find something that had lasting power and was hydrating, highly pigmented and looked luxurious while being accessible at the same time.

I took two years to formulate our Molten Matte Liquid Lipsticks, which come in 18 different pigmented shades, are moisturising and have a 14-hour staying power — to the extent that you don’t need to reapply. I simultaneously developed our Silk Suede Lipsticks as I felt that there wasn’t a rich, long-lasting lipstick available that looked glamorous in your purse and was functional for easy application. Each of our 15 shades of lipsticks are cased in an ergonomically designed press and release packaging with a mirror.

Every one of our lip colours is named after heartening and empowering mantras, with the intention to manifest and live by each message. Some of our shade names include Game Changer, Boss and Powerful.

What defines a modern woman in 2020 to you?

A modern woman is someone that is passionate about whatever they do, from the day-to-day hustlers to the homemakers, and those that are both. I believe a modern woman is someone that isn’t afraid to put in the work to make their dreams a reality. This is something that requires strength, compassion, work ethic and again, passion.

How would you describe your style?

My style is quite defined by how I feel and the affirmation I want to represent that day. This is a lot to do with how we named our lipstick shades after uplifting mantras. When you wake up in the morning and you want to feel like a winner, you dress like your version of a winner, and you apply Winner on your lips. The same goes for shades like Goal Digger, Hustler or CEO.

With that being said, you’ll always find me in a power blazer and heels!

Makeup is a fabulous way to celebrate you.

What’s one accessory every woman must have?

Lipstick! It can completely transform the way you feel and look; a red lip, for example, can give you that fiery confidence you need to conquer your day. We have a Molten Matte shade named Conquer, and it definitely does that!

What does your self-care routine look like?

I always make sure I use hydrating products as I believe it makes a world of difference on how my skin feels—whether or not I’m wearing makeup. I have very sensitive skin and therefore I love using products from skincare brands like Aesop, La Mer and Clea de Peau. For my lips, I always go back to our hydrating lip oil, VoLIPtuous, which is infused with vitamin C to fight free radicals.

I spend a lot of time cleansing and massaging my skin with a silicone face tool. I use ‘Glowdrop’ from GlowGear Pro, as it not only cleanses my skin but also has a LED light to help with boosting collagen, caring for blemishes and smoothing fine lines. I’ve recently been going to Dr. Ruth and she is phenomenal and gives my skin the much needed TLC.

Self-care, to me, is when I exercise and get the blood flowing, especially at studios such as ANDFit that have a diverse portfolio of classes to choose from.

At this moment, what does ‘beauty’ mean to you?

Beauty for me is happiness. As the Founder and CEO of Natasha Moor Cosmetics, I wholeheartedly believe that beauty comes from within, with makeup as the transformative tool that manifests the inner confidence that shines in your smile, your eyes and your soul. Makeup has the power to conceal blemishes, highlight areas of the face you want to accentuate, and provide a sense of self care, but more importantly, it has the power to bring out your inner glow. Makeup is a fabulous way to celebrate you.

In my role, I strive to inspire and empower individuals through the transformative power of makeup and give them the tools to feel like the best version of themselves, inside and out.

What’s your favourite female-owned brand(s) at the moment?

Jessica Alba of Honest Beauty is someone who I believe has truly made their mark in the beauty industry, and continues to do so. I say this because I can relate to her drive and passion about the industry and the products she creates. She found a niche in creating clean products for her children, and has taken the time to formulate her products with the utmost care. It is clear in her perseverance and direction for the brand that it is not just a celebrity endorsement but a labour of love that has reached cult status.

Who’s your Chika?

I have been so blessed to have a core circle that has been my backbone from the very beginning through thick and thin, and who have been my greatest healing therapies through all facets of my life. They know who they are!
